Healthcare Update *The Village is encouraging interested individuals to attend the upcoming Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board Meeting on August 12-13, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in Chicago at Harold Washington College, 30 E. Lake Street, Chicago. During the meeting, the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board will be considering the proposed Edward Plainfield Hospital. *Letters to legislators and letters to the editors are always helpful! Mr. Myers To Play In Settlers’ Park – August 7 Join the Village for an evening of music in Settlers’ Park on Thursday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m., as Mr. Myers delights audiences of all ages with their Caribbean Rock sound! Before heading to the park, be sure to check out the 2008 Dining Guide online, www.plainfield-il.org, for delicious dinner options to bring to the concert! The concert will be held in Settlers’ Park at the Richard A. Rock Amphitheater. Settlers’ Park is located in downtown Plainfield, southeast of the intersection of Lockport Street and Van Dyke Road and just south of the Village Hall. Parking is available in the Village Hall Parking Lot, on Village Center Drive, and on Van Dyke Road. Terraced seating is available. Attendees are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. If inclement weather is forecast, the concert may be held in the Village Hall or rescheduled. Movie Night Under The Stars Calling all movie lovers! The Village of Plainfield and Plainfield Park District will be showing Charlotte’s Web on Friday, August 8, at 8:00 p.m., in Settlers’ Park at the Richard A. Rock Amphitheater. Charlotte’s Web is an animated movie featuring the voices of Dakota Fanning, Julia Roberts, and Oprah Winfrey, which is rated G and has a run time of 97 minutes. Bring some popcorn and enjoy a movie under the stars! Wanted: Baseball Superfans You know how the song goes – “take me out to the ballgame; buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks.” Well, the Village and MainStreet are bringing the game to you! On Saturday, August 30, visit Downtown Plainfield during the Race To October and check out a variety of great baseball activities, business promotions, and prize giveaways! October is shaping up to be a historic baseball play-off season - both Chicago teams have World Series aspirations. October is also the finish line for substantial completion of the beautiful renovation of Lockport Street in downtown Plainfield. Baseball fans of all ages are invited to take part in the Race To October baseball themed event. During the Race To October, sponsored by the Village of Plainfield and MainStreet Plainfield, Inc., visitors will be able to enjoy the significant progress of the Lockport Streetscape project and shop and dine downtown while participating in all of the baseball themed activities throughout the downtown. Be sure to dress in your favorite team’s colors and jersey! A preliminary schedule of events follows: • All Day – Check out the baseball themed windows decorated by the Plainfield Art League and the specials at participating retailers! • 8 am-1 pm – Stop by the Open Air/Farmer’s Market at the corner of Lockport Street and Route 59 for fresh produce. • 11 am-12 pm – Visit with “Ozzie the Cougar” from the Kane County Cougars. • 11 am-3 pm – Stop by the DJ Booth to register to win one of many fabulous raffle prizes! • 12-1 pm – Meet the Joliet Jackhammers very own mascot – “Jammer.” • 12-7 pm – Check out the downtown restaurants and their tasting specials during the Grand Slam Tour. • 1-3 pm – Speed Pitch – Did you ever dream of pitching in the big leagues?
